Kitchens for Athelstone homes
Athelstone sits along the River Torrens at the foot of the hills, with family homes on generous blocks.
Athelstone is about 12 km north-east of the CBD, in the Campbelltown City Council area. Campbelltown is made up mostly of post-war and 1960s–80s brick homes on good-sized blocks, with foothills streets around Rostrevor and Athelstone and plenty of newer townhouses on subdivided land. Many homes are now on their second or third kitchen.

Outdoor kitchens in Athelstone
Adelaide summers regularly pass 40°C, so an outdoor kitchen in Athelstone works best under a roof or a well-placed pergola, out of the western sun. Choose UV-stable benchtops such as porcelain or sintered stone, allow for an outdoor-rated fridge, and have a licensed gas fitter connect the BBQ to mains gas where it's available so you're not swapping bottles mid-party.
Before you renovate
Most kitchen renovations in Athelstone don't need council approval if the work stays inside and the structure doesn't change. Make sure whoever you hire holds a South Australian building work contractor's licence, gives you a written contract for work of $12,000 or more, and arranges building indemnity insurance if the job needs approval. If you're replacing the benchtop, remember engineered stone can no longer be installed, so look at porcelain, sintered stone, natural stone or laminate.
Kitchen questions from Athelstone
Do you arrange kitchen quotes in Athelstone?
Yes. Athelstone (5076) is in the Campbelltown City Council area, which we cover. We'll match you with a kitchen business that already works in Athelstone and nearby suburbs such as Highbury and Newton, so you're not paying for someone to travel across town.
How much does a kitchen renovation cost in Athelstone?
Across Adelaide in 2026, most full kitchen renovations fall between about $12,000 for a budget replacement and $45,000 for a mid-range custom kitchen, with premium kitchens going well past that. In Athelstone, the biggest variables are usually whether the layout changes and how much plumbing, gas and electrical work has to move. See the cost guide.
Do I need council approval for a kitchen renovation in Athelstone?
Usually not, if the work stays inside the house and doesn't change the structure. Removing a load-bearing wall, building an extension or adding a roofed verandah for an outdoor kitchen may need development approval, which in South Australia is lodged through the PlanSA portal. For Athelstone, development applications are assessed by the Campbelltown City Council. The builder quoting your job should tell you whether approval is needed.
Can I get an outdoor kitchen in Athelstone?
Yes. Adelaide summers regularly pass 40°C, so an outdoor kitchen in Athelstone works best under a roof or a well-placed pergola, out of the western sun. We can arrange a quote for an outdoor kitchen on its own or together with your indoor kitchen.
