Outdoor kitchens in Pasadena
Adelaide summers regularly pass 40°C, so an outdoor kitchen in Pasadena works best under a roof or a well-placed pergola, out of the western sun. Choose UV-stable benchtops such as porcelain or sintered stone, allow for an outdoor-rated fridge, and have a licensed gas fitter connect the BBQ to mains gas where it's available so you're not swapping bottles mid-party.
Before you renovate
Most kitchen renovations in Pasadena don't need council approval if the work stays inside and the structure doesn't change. Parts of City of Mitcham are within Historic Area or Character Area Overlays under the Planning and Design Code. These mostly affect changes you can see from the street, so a kitchen inside the house is rarely an issue, but an extension or new verandah may need approval. Make sure whoever you hire holds a South Australian building work contractor's licence, gives you a written contract for work of $12,000 or more, and arranges building indemnity insurance if the job needs approval. If you're replacing the benchtop, remember engineered stone can no longer be installed, so look at porcelain, sintered stone, natural stone or laminate.
