Kitchens for Upper Hermitage homes
Upper Hermitage is about 21 km north-east of the CBD, in the Adelaide Hills Council area, with part of the suburb in the City of Tea Tree Gully area. The Adelaide Hills Council area takes in leafy towns like Stirling, Aldgate, Crafers and Bridgewater, the country towns of Lobethal, Woodside, Gumeracha and Birdwood, and orchards, vineyards and rural blocks in between. It is cooler and wetter than the plains, and much of it is bushfire-prone.
Popular kitchen projects in Upper Hermitage

- Kitchens with room for a wood heater, pantry and laundry nearby
- Covered outdoor kitchens with heating for cool evenings
- Kitchens planned around the view, with plenty of natural light
Outdoor kitchens in Upper Hermitage
Evenings are cooler and winters wetter in Upper Hermitage, so outdoor kitchens here usually sit under a solid roof, often with a heater or fireplace nearby. Much of the area is bushfire-prone: if your property has a bushfire attack level (BAL) rating, choose non-combustible materials for anything attached to the house. Sloping blocks may need a deck or some retaining to create a level space.
Before you renovate
Most kitchen renovations in Upper Hermitage don't need council approval if the work stays inside and the structure doesn't change. Make sure whoever you hire holds a South Australian building work contractor's licence, gives you a written contract for work of $12,000 or more, and arranges building indemnity insurance if the job needs approval. If you're replacing the benchtop, remember engineered stone can no longer be installed, so look at porcelain, sintered stone, natural stone or laminate.
Kitchen questions from Upper Hermitage
Do you arrange kitchen quotes in Upper Hermitage?
Yes. Upper Hermitage (5131) is in the Adelaide Hills Council area, which we cover. We'll match you with a kitchen business that already works in Upper Hermitage and nearby suburbs such as Lower Hermitage and Yatala Vale, so you're not paying for someone to travel across town.
How much does a kitchen renovation cost in Upper Hermitage?
Across Adelaide in 2026, most full kitchen renovations fall between about $12,000 for a budget replacement and $45,000 for a mid-range custom kitchen, with premium kitchens going well past that. In Upper Hermitage, the biggest variables are usually site access, sloping floors and whether the kitchen is being opened up to the view. See the cost guide.
Do I need council approval for a kitchen renovation in Upper Hermitage?
Usually not, if the work stays inside the house and doesn't change the structure. Removing a load-bearing wall, building an extension or adding a roofed verandah for an outdoor kitchen may need development approval, which in South Australia is lodged through the PlanSA portal. For Upper Hermitage, development applications are assessed by the Adelaide Hills Council. The builder quoting your job should tell you whether approval is needed.
Can I get an outdoor kitchen in Upper Hermitage?
Yes. Evenings are cooler and winters wetter in Upper Hermitage, so outdoor kitchens here usually sit under a solid roof, often with a heater or fireplace nearby. We can arrange a quote for an outdoor kitchen on its own or together with your indoor kitchen.
